WHY CONSIDER LED HIGH BAYS OVER HALOGEN HIGH BAYS?
HIGHLY ENERGY EFFICIENT
LED high bays are highly energy efficient. You can expect energy savings of up to 70% on average when compared to traditional high bays. There is no wastage of energy in terms of heat emission in LED high bays. They convert over 95% electricity into light, emitting negligible heat.
REDUCED ENERGY BILLS
Because there is no loss of energy as heat in LEDs, unlike in traditional lights, LED high bays are highly efficient in terms of power usage and light output, hence energy saving is upward 70%.
BETTER ILLUMINATION
An adequately lit facility improves safety and productivity at the workplace. LED high bays are clean and evenly lit with a 120-degree beam angle, ensuring evenly distributed light and no dark patches. Whereas HID and halogen high bays offer dull illumination.
NO MAINTENANCE COST
LED high bays have a long lamp lifespan of more than 50,000 hours. Meaning LED high bays last 5-10 times more than traditional high bays. Also, they don’t need frequent maintenance once installed, bringing down maintenance costs to almost zero.
GOVERNMENT APPROVED
LED high bays we install are so efficient that they have been approved for use in the government energy saving scheme – VEU (formerly VEET) rebate program.
SLEEK DESIGN
LED high bays are sleek in design, hence almost unobtrusive and aesthetically modern, making them the modern way of lighting warehouses and storage units.
WHY NOT METAL HALIDE AND HALOGEN HIGH BAYS?
Highly energy inefficient: Traditional lights such as metal halide and halogen high bays are power hungry, they consume high energy and deliver low light output. This is because halogen lamps use a filament that heats up and glows to produce light and a lot of heat when the electricity passes through it.
Halogen high bays are not efficient from an energy perspective as a large amount of electricity goes as the heat discharge. The heat radiates to the front of the lamp so the housing is made from material such as metal, aluminum, plastic, etc., and the front lens is typically glass that manages the heat. Halogens are cheap to buy but not cost-effective due to their short lifespan and energy inefficiency.
Metal halide are discharge lamps, much like a fluorescent tube, where the gas in the lamp glows, rather than a filament like in halogen bulbs. These lights are more efficient than halogen but useful life reaches peaks very quickly, and performance drops only after a few hundred hours. A metal halide lamp loses 25% of its original performance within the first 250 hours of use. Another disadvantage of metal halides is their significant restart time (about 10 minutes). Quick performance drop accounts for ongoing maintenance costs as the bulbs have to be replaced regularly.
Shorter lifespan: Halogen and metal halide high bays have a short lifespan, about 2,000 hours and 20,000 hours respectively. On the other hand, a typical LED bulb can last for over 50,000 hours. Which means before your one LED high bay burns out, you would have replaced a minimum of 20 halogen high bays in the same length of time.
Another reason why LED lights have a long life is that they are solid-state bulbs and have fewer breakable parts. Whereas halogen and metal halide bulbs are very vulnerable to accidental breakage.
Poor light output: LEDs have far better light output than most halogen lamps. 7 LED lamps can easily achieve the same amount of brightness produced by 20 halogen lamps. The lumen output of LED and halogen and metal halide lamps vary greatly at the same power input. For instance, an 18W LED gives out the same brightness as a 70W halogen bulb.
Flexibility: For every type of halogen lamp, there is a lower wattage equivalent in LED lights. So, you can easily swap out your old halogens for brighter and energy-saving LED.
LED HIGH BAYS ARE ECO-FRIENDLY
LEDs consume very little energy and produce no greenhouse gases, unlike traditional lights. Hence, they are an eco-friendly lighting option for businesses of all sizes to help reduces your carbon footprint. Plus, they don’t contain any mercury.
